The Jessica Lee Elwell Scholarship
Jessica Lee Elwell was a beloved member of the Junior Program until her death in 1999.
The annual award in her name was established by her family and friends to honor Junior
Program Members who share the traits she is best remembered for: enthusiasm, charisma,
friendliness, caring, love for teaching, dedication to "Sailing for All", and an eagerness to
volunteer at CBI.
The Jessica Lee Elwell Scholarship is to enable young sailors from Community Boating's
Junior Program to participate in educational sailing programs at sea.
Eligibility:
Members of the Junior Program who are in at least their second year of membership and
are at least 14 years of age on the date of the award are eligible to receive a scholarship.
Application Process:
- Complete the Jessica Lee Elwell Scholarship Application form
- An application should include a creative expression of the applicants experience
of the Junior Program that consists solely of the applicants own work and a
brief written account, signed by a Junior Program staff member, of the applicant's
volunteer service to Community Boating.
- Completed application is due on the 2nd Friday of August by 3:00 PM (August 11,
2006). Please submit the completed application to the Program Director or the
Executive Director.
The recipient of the scholarship will be notified via postal mail. If a recipient has not
begun program participation within twelve months of the award date, the recipient will
forfeit the award. CBI requests that recipients provide a memoir for their experience.
